TOO FACED EYESHADOW PALETTES | REVIEW & SWATCHES

Too Faced Cosmetics, without a doubt, is a prime example of an innovative company when it comes to their beauty products.

I've been happily purchasing from Too Faced for years now and will probably continue to do so for a very long time- if not forever. The unbelievable quality and packaging pretty much lures me in like a kid at a candy store. Because I am confident due to my previous experiences with their products (mascaras, lipsticks, blushes and palettes), it's no surprise that I am the owner of ALL their beautifully scented eyeshadow palettes.

I've had the Chocolate and Semi-Sweet palette for over a year now so the Bon Bon and Sweet Peach numbers are just making a debut in my collection. If you reference the photos below, you'll notice while all the palettes are similar in shades, they are rather different in person. The Chocolate Bar is neutral in comparison to the Semi sweet which is warmer. The Bon Bon stay true to its candy like purple and pink tone and the Peach is just that, peachy.

At $49.00 per palette, there are 16 eyeshadow pans on the first three palettes and 18 eyeshadow pans in the latest Peach shade. Minimal fall out and extremely pigmented shades with chocolate, candy and peach scented is what you should expect here. Be on a lookout for an overload of Too Faced Makeup tutorials on my YouTube channel because I can't seem to put these down.

What is your favorite palette out of the bunch? Do you own any of them? If so, which ones? Comment down below!

ANTI-VALENTINE'S DAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL | COLLAB WITH AICHA KAMATE

To my single ladies or those of you who are not so traditional with the soft girly looks, this is for you!

I collaborated with my awesome friend and YouTuber, Aicha Kamate to bring to you two different Valentine's Day makeup tutorials. Although we both used glitter, my take was on the bold side while hers was softer and traditional.

What are you ladies doing for Valentine's Day? Are you going on a softer look like Aicha? Or bold like Aïchatou?

ABH MODERN RENAISSANCE PALETTE | REVIEW & SWATCHES

MODERN-RENAISSANCE-GRAPHIC

RIGHT TO LEFT: Tempera, Golden Ochre, Vermeer, Buon Fresco, Antique Bronze, Love Letter, Cyprus Umber, Raw Sienna, Burnt Orange, Primavera, Red Ochre, Venetian Red, Warm Taupe & Realgar.

After trying it for myself, it's no surprise that the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette has so much hype around it. This velvety packaged number, filled with 14 beautiful warm tones is exactly what a makeup fanatic dreams of.

There is an incredible variety of colors to play around with, from 11 mattes to 3 shimmers, which can help with the transition of a day to night look with its dual-sided soft bristle brush. The Modern Renaissance is really like no other palette I have used. Every shadow is extremely buttery, pigmented and lasts ALL DAY with the proper application (prime your eyes before using them).

While there is a bit of a fall out, it is the only con I have and for an impulse purchase,  I have zero regrets. My recommendation for this minor issue is to apply it before your foundation or prepare your under eye area with baking powder as I've done in my tutorials

If you're on the fence about purchasing this, the reviews all over the internet are true and ABH has done it again! For $42 (which equates to $3 per shadow) your truly, honestly getting your monies worth, darling!

If I could wear glitter all day and everyday, I would! But since I can't, expect to see more looks similar to this. The copper number from Violet Voss is perfect for your party night or the grocery store, depending on your level of fabulosity. Because it was my first time playing around with glitter, I honestly struggled a bit more with my lash application. The trick is to apply a thin layer of eyeliner on the lash line in addition to tight lining in order to make sure it blends seamlessly.

I hope you enjoy watching the tutorial and learn a trick or two.

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE | CHRISTMAS STOCKING STUFFERS

'Tis the season to be broke, Falalala lalalala...

As much as I am an organizational freak I NEVER fail at doing my holiday shopping at the last minute because it's just absolutely dreadful to me. I am already sighing at the thought of figuring out gift that would be perfect for my loved ones, without of course, getting distracted and purchasing something for myself. Yes, it's truly the thought that counts but I have a competitive personality and even want perfection at gift giving.

If you're finally "adulting" (a term we millennials use when attempting and experiencing adulthood) you're probably struggling with purchasing Christmas gifts for the favorite humans in your life just like I am. I can't help you with being broke (I'm broke too, boo) but I can relieve the stress and share some gift ideas that I've stumbled upon! Whether you'd like to splurge or save for those who've been nice to you, here is a holiday guide, under $100, (literally $99.99 HA!) for the deserving people in your life.

I've developed an immense obsession with highlighters (better than drugs, right?) so naturally I wanted to share the glow with you. These shimmery products are meant to make you look like you're glowing from within. However, if you're like me, you like your glow to be to be a little disrespectful, in order to reflect off the negativity that may come your way. **flips hair**

There's no doubt about the high demand for these highlighters that make your cheekbones pop and give you a radiant look as if you're glistening from eternal sunbeams. Since my job is to splurge on makeup and share the scoop with you, (clearly it isn't but this is what we are going to say to justify my addiction) I have compiled my top 6 highlighters to make sure you're remembered as your game forever strong.

Because I never considered YouTube as an outlet to expand my creativity due to intimidation, I curated a billion excuses as to why I couldn't do it. In my opinion, it would take up too much time, patience and energy I didn't have. When in reality, I was afraid of putting myself in a world where cyber bullying is so common.

Thanks to my fearless and incredible support system plus the high I got from filming live at Condé Nast, the sky is yet again the limit. Welcome to my new journey where we will be interacting more on an intimate level!

PINK OCTOBER | DIY PAT MCGRATH GLITTER LIPS

Glitter-Lips-Graphic

To my girls who have experienced a loved one with breast cancer, your strength is appreciated.

While the month of October has generally been about welcoming pumpkin spiced lattes, dark color hues and Thanksgiving dinners, it's also been a month of wearing pink and bringing awareness to breast cancer. I always want Stilettos & Standards to be known for both aspects of slaying in our stilettos but also being aware of the real life experiences that set our standards. Pink October particularly focuses on bringing to light ways we can all fund for the breast cancer research by being informed, participating and donating.

Although I've participated by doing walks, bake sales and staying in the know, I still wanted to bring awareness to my squad (aka YOU) by introducing this Pat McGrath inspired Glitter lip in PINK. I've been so into DIY and improvising that I turned my room upside down to find props that can work and because you are part of the squad I had to share these easy tips!

I hope you enjoy this fun- editorial (not edible) look and remember to still participate for Pink October even when the month ends.

S&S LIVE AT CONDE NAST

In case you missed it, I wanted to share the link to my Makeover Monday video with The Scene. I had the opportunity of stopping by Condé Nast (home of prestige magazines like GQ, Vogue & Glamour) to do a look that portrayed leaving the runway and going to dinner. It was all about sporting matte lips and wearing a GLOW. I am super grateful for the experience and feel amazing about this YEAR OF YES experience.

When the producer of The Scene reached out to me about doing my makeup and interacting on their Facebook page live, I was terrified! My initial instinct was to say NO, but then I thought, isn't this supposed to be your YEAR OF YES?! Aren't you supposed to feel a little uncomfortable before doing something that could be truly amazing? GO FOR IT! This was the best decision I made because it made me realize how much I love the camera and would like to introduce a Facebook live tutorials more often! It's organic, it's real and it's life. So keep your eyes peeled, prep up your lattes or wine, because it's going down!

FAUX FRECKLES

Freckles has taken the beauty world by storm and I am SO for it. It excites me to see that many people have come to accept freckles as another form of beauty because these are among one of the many things we need to embrace.

For those of us that didn't know, freckles usually appear on fair complexions but can also be found on darker ones. People with darker skin absorb the sun and can tan easily as opposed to those who lack it. If you lack melanin, the sunlight causes your melanocytes to distributes your tan unevenly which then results to freckles.

I am surrounded by beauties who are blessed with freckles so I thought I would practicipate in the faux freckle trend. I know the majority of us have no in between when it comes to this makeup look because we either absolutely love it or prefer to leave it for the naturals. I achieved these by using a ZOEVA 315 Fine Liner brush & the trusted ABH DipBrow Pomade inEbony. Although I was very ambivalent about this look due to it being out of my comfort zone, it was fun and reminded me that makeup has no rules.

What are your thoughts on beauty marks? Did you know freckles were a result of the distribution of uneven melanin? Have you tried the faux freckles trend or is it not your cup of tea?

SUMMER LIP COCKTAILS

One of my most frequently asked question is "What lipstick are you wearing Aïchatou?!" I am guilty of having more lipsticks than I should but I probably won't stop purchasing them anytime soon. Although my last lipstick post only focused on my Colourpop collection, I wanted to share some more of my go-to lip concoctions this time around.  Keep in mind that while the title includes the summer season, there are truly no rules to makeup! I have worn these shades all year round, which is why I took it upon myself to include a berry lip. My only tip for looking fabulous is to make sure you scrub your lips then moisturize them before your application. Otherwise, wear the color of your confidence and kill it darling!

STAYING MOTIVATED

Before we get into the fun stuff and makeup deets, I should address the elephant in the room: why I haven't been on social media anywhere for the past month. In addition to being on a spiritual and emotional journey, I thought it was the perfect time to refuel my motivation and creative approach during Ramadan. There's usually moments in our lives where we want to throw our hands up and say "I give up". So taking this time off was really necessary and helped me with approaching obstacles a bit differently and turning them into opportunities. Here are five things I've intensely practiced this past month to keep me motivated and I truly hope helps anyone going through a creative funk.

1. GRATITUDE- I have always been very hard on myself and sometimes disregard what my full plate looks like. Having a grateful heart in moments where things do not seem to go my way has really taken me far.  I can't worry about what someone else is eating on their plate while mine may be filled in a different aspect. Everyone has a different time zone so I need to be thankful and focus on mine.

2. PATIENCE- Speaking from experience, there has never been a time in my life where God (this spiritual being may be different from yours, but the principal still applies to anyone.) removed something in my life and didn't replace it with something better. I always lacked patience but truly taking things one day at a time and believing that a rough time is just a stage in life helps a lot.

3. SOLITUDE- Being alone for a period of time is absolutely okay. My close friends and I always joke about me being a loner and removing myself from any situation that involves meeting new people. That in itself is something I am working on but in this case solitude truly helps me in clearing up my mind and tackling things differently.

4. REALISM- Most of my frustration comes from not being able to achieve a goal on a deadline but truthfully are my goals attainable in such a short period of time? No. I firmly believe that nothing is impossible but I consider my time frame and other noises that might give limitation. Breaking goals into chunks and realistically giving myself time to achieve them is such a rewarding feeling.

5. KEEP GOING- Progression is progression no matter what the pace is. The feeling of stopping and not knowing when the results could have happen is uneasy to me. So my rule of thumb is to keep going even if I'm slowing down to mastermind and refuel.

CANDY SHOP

1463357823502.jpeg

One of my earliest memories is when I lived back home and was joyous when the neighbors would extend a party invitation. If I saw my mother arranging hair appointments and assembling our (my sisters and I) fancy outfits, I knew it was about to go down! That meant we could attend a party and have sweets, and sweets meant a happy Aïchatou! I would stuff my pockets with as many as my little hands could grab and go home hoping my mother didn't notice (although I'm pretty sure she did by the trail of candy wrappers I left).

I came to the United States at 9 years old and felt like the candy fairies just granted my wishes. I lived where bodegas were so easily accessible and a dollar from my daddy was just a bat of lashes away. You'd think my desire would simmer down considering how much I have indulged due to my freedom but I kid you not, I had macarons for breakfast before writing this post! It reminds me of growing up in Benin with such a strict mother then arriving to the USA as a preteen who could easily attain all the junk food my heart desired.

This look, inspired by Aaliyah Jay, a beauty guru I met at the Beauty Biz Network, triggers so many nostalgic feelings. I've always had an immense obsession with sweets- chocolate and macarons were always my favorites but I really didn't discriminate on anything that gave me a sugar rush. Although it felt unfortunate at the time, I also had a very stern mother who wouldn't even allow me to drink soda unless it was for a particular occasion.

BROWS ON FLEEK

I'm almost ashamed to admit how awful my eyebrows looked once upon a time. I had NO business walking in public looking like a hot mess. You're probably wondering, "Well, where were your friends Aïchatou?!" Believe me when I say they told me countless amounts of times, but I still couldn't see the mess that was so vivid.

Now that we got the truth out of the way, I can go ahead and share the scoop on how I have NOW been getting my brows on fleek. There are really simple products that will keep them in place if you're familiar with the best brow products in the market. Keep in mind while the products I mention are high end, you can purchase similar drugstore products as long as it essentially creates the same results. Oh and if you do, please share below!

• ABH DipBrow Pomade in Ebony- I have been using this pomade for three years now and have never turned back. To use, outline the bottom and top of your brows then fill them in with tiny little strokes to your satisfaction for natural looking brows.

ABH #7 Mini Duo Angled/Spooley- Works SO well with creamy consistencies. The brush makes the most detailed strokes while the spoolie (spiraled end) blends out the excess product.

L.A. Girl Pro Concealer in Fawn- Super affordable, blends well and has an opaque finish. I love that it already comes with a application brush where you can precisely clean up your brows and blend them.

ABH Brow Gel- While this may be an added essential but see this as a top coat to your brows. It stays on all day and not one strand of hair will budge.

TIPS- Eyebrows are sisters not twins! For natural looking brows, they should more than often be two shades light than your hair color. (There's nothing wrong with super dark brows making you happy though because it's all about YOUR comfort zone!)

THE NUBIAN PALETTE

Juvia's Place has taken over most, if not all, social media platforms by storm with its infamous Nubian Palette. This $20.00 gem comes with a 12 piece collection of buttery, warm-tone shades that are easily blended and lasts all day. As a sucker for packaging (if we haven't established that yet) not only is this product well sculpted, but has highly pigmented shimmery and matte pans that compliment all skin shades and undertones.

The beautiful queen, who reminds me of an Egyptian Goddess, lays on a jade green palette that stands true to its name, Nubian. Besides the package itself and how well it is marketed, what attracted me to it was how well the vibrant colors complemented all shades of women and specifically those with melanin who struggle with finding the perfect color hues for their dark skin.

As a lover of gold, bronze and brown color spectrums this versatile layout is exactly what I need for the golden summer days. It's all about the dew and glow on the skin and this Nubian Queen has the right amount of intensity for just that!

LASH GAME STRONG

IMG_1744.PNG

It took me a long time (by that I mean a very, very long time) to get used to lashes. I would cringe at the thought of it because I had an enormous fear that anything that was near the socket of my eyes would damage it. It took countless of practices and text messages to my beauty guru friends to have some form of serenity towards them. My point of all this is, if I can apply falsies, so can you!

Now if you aren't into worrying about washing your eyes and costly appointments, strip lashes are for you. They range from $2.99 to $29.99 depending on the quality and could be easily removed at the end of your day. There are numerous styles like whispies (which are awesome!) , glamorous, naturals and voluminous to give you the extra "vavavoom" you need to complete a look for a special event. Some of the current brands I've been reaching for lately are House of Lashes, Kiss, Ardell and Salon Perfect.

APPLICATION TIP

• Purchasing lashes with thin bands help hide the visibility of where your falsies lays.

•Before applying, measure your false lashes accordingly and snip the excess off from the outer ends. (This will allow the inner corner to stay natural and not irritate your eye during the day.)

• Be sure to apply the tiniest amount of glue on the eyelash bands and allow it to get tacky within 60 seconds.

•Personally, I like to look downwards during the application process in order to place them closest to my lash line. Apply mascara and squeeze your lashes and voila!
